Scott - As a result of winning the second weekend of the 2009 American Yacht Club Fall Series in J/105 “Power Play”, which I charter and race all season on the East Coast, we also won the Manhasset Bay Challenge Cup, the oldest yachting trophy competed for annually in the United States. I was informed by American Yacht Club, which hosted this year’s event and has now lost the Cup to the St. Francis, that we will have the honor to host the next event.
Since the Challenge has been raced in J/105’s for the past three years, and must rotate into a different type of boat every three years, we had to pick something else, and chose to hold it at the 2010 Simpson Regatta in Etchells.
It is an impressive three foot tall trophy that resides at Manhasset Bay YC.
This trophy will go to the winner of the Simpson Regatta, along with the usual Simpson Trophy.
This should be reason enough to splash your boat for one more regatta in 2010.
