Housing for the Worlds

Richmond Yacht Club is located in a Cove, isolated from Richmond by a few miles. There is a quaint community with several restaurants called Pt. Richmond two miles away.

The members of Richmond Yacht Club and those in these two communities will attempt to provide several sources of housing for the competitors. This housing will be subdivided into two categories.

Available housing for hire will include:

Hotels

We recommend four hubs of hotels:

Pt. Richmond
There is one hotel in Pt Richmond that has 100 rooms. Most rooms are single units so a standard Etchells team would have to book two rooms. A continental breakfast is part of the deal. This is the Quality Inn and it is what we call a "highway hotel." There are a few amenities. From a cost and convenience standpoint, this will be the best hotel. We have negotiated a group rate of $65 for double and $75 for a triple room. Please identify yourself as Etchells World Championship when you call in.

The Quality Inn is at 915 Cutting Blvd and their telephone number is 510-237-3000. When booking, advise them you are with the Richmond Yacht Club event. We will try to negotiate a group rate at $50.00/room - $60.00/room. The negotiated rate will be published as a news brief on the website once negotiations are complete.

Emeryville - 12 miles away
There are a cluster of medium to high quality hotels in the town of Emeryville, 12 miles from Richmond Yacht Club. These are recommended as they are directly at the foot of the Bay Bridge serving San Francisco. Costs will be between $100 - $150/room. These are located off Highway 80 at the Powell Street exit.

For those who want more than a highway hotel, we suggest you contact one of the following:
Courtyard by Marriott 510-652-8777 one room units
Four Points - Sheraton 510-547-7888 one room units
Holiday Inn 510-658-9300 one room units
Woodfin Suite Hotel 510-601-5880 one room suites- kitchens

Pinole / North Richmond - 9 miles away
There is a cluster of highway hotels in Pinole /North Richmond that will be more affordable than those in Emeryville. These are located near the Hilltop exit off Highway 80. There is a 24 hour fitness center with sauna and pool nearby. These are linked to Richmond Yacht Club by a 9 mile long Parkway. There are good restaurants nearby. For those who want hotels in this area, we recommend the following: Hotel 6 510-222-8174 $65/room
Courtyard by Marriott 510-262-0700 $150/room

San Francisco - 40 minutes away
The hundreds of Hotels in San Francisco will be 40 minutes away. These will work as the travel to Richmond Yacht Club will be out of phase with the commute and the traffic situation should be manageable.

Marin County
The dozens of hotels in Marin County (Larkspur, Corte Madrea, Mill Valley, San Rafael) are not encouraged as there is major construction on the bridge that links Marin to Richmond. One hour traffic delays are common.

Berkeley
There are a few Hotels in Berkeley, 8 miles away. However, Berkeley is not a hotel center.

Recreational Vehicles

There are spaces for about 30 Recreation Vehicles on a site next door to the Yacht Club. If there is an interest from the competitors, we will organize an Etchells Park and attempt to set up this row of Recreation Vehicles. We believe there will be no security problems.

Cruise America go to www.cruiseamerica.com for pictures
contact: Christie 1-800-784-7368 for rentals
25ft RV - sleeps 5 = about $2000 for 12 days
30ft RV - sleeps 7 = about $2500 for 12 days
Renters to negotiate directly with Cruise America and be responsible for pick up and delivery. RV's are completely self contained.

Leasing of Private Homes and Condominiums

Our realtor, Margi Cellucci, will attempt to make arrangements for those in our community to lease their homes to the competitors. Margi will set up individual contracts between the homeowners and the competitors for this housing arrangement. We suspect these homes will lease for $2,000 up. Please make your requests to Margi Cellucci by email margi@brickyard-cove.com

Guest Housing

The members at Richmond Yacht Club are well known for hosting competitors at their events. Many of us live within walking distance of the Club. Most of this housing will be limited to one or two crew members. Some homeowners will host an entire crew. It is expected that those housed do not rely on their hosts for food services. There are several nearby restaurants to serve those with private housing. Those who are hosted should invite their hosts to participate in some of the regatta social activities.

Private Yachts in the Harbor

There are many 30' + boats in the Richmond Yacht Club harbor. Several of the members of Richmond Yacht Club have allowed competitors to stay on these boats during major regattas. There are several nearby restaurants to serve those housed in boats in the harbor.
